I discovered a quick and easy way to add a bit of security to my apartment. It's something even the most novice handiperson can install on their own, with a screwdriver and drill. With two metal plates, one on the door and one on the frame, it provides a guard to prevent someone from prying open your door at the location of the deadbolts or latch. For just $11.00 at Clark/Devon hardware, I purchased my very own metal pry plate. Two of them, actually, one for the front door and one for the back door:
